Eclipse UML

For the software developer using Eclipse, UML tools are perceived as mainly being aimed at the analyst/designer employing traditional software methods, with only reverse engineered Eclipse UML diagrams being of interest to the programmer. AgileJ StructureViews challenges the expectations of the UML Eclipse using community by focusing on the needs of Java programmers specifically.

There are a growing number of plugins for the Eclipse platform which give Eclipse UML diagram drawing capabilities to the Eclipse Java developer. Many of these UML tools attempt to support a number of Java development tools at the same time. However, AgileJ StructureViews is dedicated to use on Eclipse Java development tools only. This allows AgileJ StructureViews to achieve the greatest level of integration between UML, Eclipse and Java. While working in Eclipse, UML symbols look out of place because of the parallel nomenclature of the Eclipse Java development tools. This places an overhead on the developer who has to mentally convert between the symbols of the Eclipse Java development tool and the UML Eclipse plugin symbols.
